That’s the way the Antwerp photographer Katrijn Van Giel captures the world around her.
Katrijn Van Giel graduated from the Antwerp College for photography in 2004. During her training she did an internship with the Italian photo studio Ikon Productions and with the Flemish quality newspaper De Standaard, which still publishes her work up to this day.
In 2007, 2008 and 2011 Katrijn has won the Nikon Press Photo Award for best portrait in the category photographers under 30. In 2011 she also won the Nikon Press Photo Award for best photographer, best photo and best photo documentary.
In 2017 she was granted the Belgium National Award as best Belgian photographer with the Sony World Photography Awards.
Nowadays Katrijn also shoots photographs commissioned by NRC Handelsblad, Klasse and she is the principal photographer for the Dutch theater company Het Nieuwstedelijk. She takes care of the photography for the Flemish Government Architect's website and books. Additionally, she works as a photographer for various national and international customers, ranging from sexual health campaigner Sensoa to publicity agencies like TBWA, Euro RSCG, Dallas and many more.
Katrijn collaborated on several books and her photographs appear in, amongst others, books commissioned by Polo Architects, Public Space, Stad Genk, Rabobank and WPG publishing house.
